On April 23–27, 2016, the Northeast Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives (NEC/AAAE) celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the International Aviation Snow Symposium in Buffalo, NY. As part of the festivities, the very first Snow Plow Rodeo and BBQ was held on Wednesday the 27th at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.
Competitors were judged on how well they prepared their snow plow for the course. Then, they were timed as they manuevered their way through a challenging course that included obstacles that are encountered during snow plowing events at airports.
The drivers competed for cash prizes, plaques and a free registration for the 2017 I.A.S.S. Prizes for first place included the Grand Prize, one set of snow plow blades for the winner’s airport provided by the primary sponsor of the rodeo, Kueper North America. The BBQ was sponsored by Delaware North.
The top three competitor’s were . . .
1st place: Michael Shirk, Pittsburgh International Airport. $300 in cash, a free registration for the 51st I.A.S.S. and the Kueper Snow plow blades for his employer.
2nd place: Matt Wilson, Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky International Airport. $200 in cash.
3rd Place: Christopher McBride, Buffalo Niagara International Airport. $100 in cash.
“Our very first Snow Plow Rodeo and BBQ was a huge success,” said Joe Guarino, chairman of the I.A.S.S. “We had 25 competitors, over 200 spectators, the weather was perfect, the BBQ was incredible, it couldn’t of gone any better.”
