The NEC/AAAE Snow Symposium is proud to announce a new award for the 2016-2017 season. The HEAVY HITTER award is designed to recognize an individual for their integral efforts as a part of your snow removal operations over this past season. The uniqueness of this awards lies in the merits of how it is awarded. A nominee could be virtually anyone on your staff: an operator who went above and beyond the call of duty, someone who effectively trained new personnel within your operation, an individual who sacrificed for others, or even someone in an administrative role who made sure that uniforms were cleaned and hot meals on the ready. The nominee is truly an individual in your operation who was able to take some of the burden off of you as a supervisor and be a HEAVY HITTER for the team. We are asking that you pleasesubmit a nomination from your airport for this award.

Deadline for submission is Friday, April 7th. Please return submissions to: tim.haizlip@flylouisville.com

The recipient will be based solely on supervisor nomination/merit and NOT the size of the airport or the amount of snowfall that they receive. Please encourage any other airports that you have contact with (large or small) to nominate someone if they have a deserving individual.

Operator of the Year Award
This year, the International Snow Symposium will be presenting its fourth Operator of the Year Award. Each airport attending the I.A.S.S. is asked to nominate one equipment operator from their airport. A committee of four members of the Advisory Board of the I.A.S.S. will review applications prior to the event. Scores will be given to each nominee, weighing each point of interest separately.

Recipients will be chosen on the basis of the following points of interest:

  • Years of experience
  • Skills
  • Training
  • Types of equipment operated
  • Shift/hours worked
  • Leadership attributes
  • Education/technical knowledge
  • Unique situation(s)/event(s) during the 2015-16 season
  • Any other relevant information

One winner will be chosen from each of the following categories of airport:
Large: Over 200,000 scheduled operations annually
Medium: 100,000 – 200,000 scheduled operations annually
Small: Less than 100,000 scheduled operations annually

Nominees receive a discounted rate to the I.A.S.S., and are encouraged to attend. A plaque will be awarded to the operator who best reflects the spirit of Operator of the Year.

Submit your Operator of the Year nominees online here.

The Idea Corner Contest
Are you in airport management, operations or maintenance? Have you modified or designed new equipment, tried new or new combinations of materials or created successful new methods that have improved airport winter operations that you'd like to share?

Submit your idea to the Idea Corner for the 51st International Aviation Snow Symposium to be held April 22-26, 2017 in Buffalo, NY.

Using a short video, or a few photographs, or some power point slides, show how your idea works, how it enhances airport winter operations and how it saves your airport time and money.

All original ideas that have been proven to offer creative solutions to important issues pertaining to snow removal and the many tasks associated are welcome and eligible to win the Idea Corner Contest.

For more details on how to become eligible to win one of these prestigious I.A.S.S. awards visit www.snowsymposium.org/events.
